Work Recognition Program
The Work Recognition Program is an alternative entry method to the Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT.)
Who is the program for?
The program is designed to help future students enter university for the first time, regardless of whether you have completed Year 12 or not.
How does the program work?
The program takes into account your previous and current work experience and you are not required to have any formal academic qualifications.
What courses can I apply for?
Currently, the program is available for admission into the following La Trobe courses:
Who can apply?
You can apply for the program if you:
- are 21 years of age or older on 1 January of the year you intend to commence tertiary study
- have a minimum of twelve months full-time paid employment since completing secondary schooling
How is my rank calculated?
We will use your previous work experience to calculate a rank based on the type of work experience you have and length of service. In order to do this you will need to visit the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO) website.
- The program uses the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO) codes, together with length of employment service
- A supporting written statement from an employer
- An autobiographical essay
How to apply for the program:
Step 1.
2013 Entry
Apply for admission through your tertiary admissions centre (VTAC, UAC). If you are applying outside the main entry round, you can skip this step and apply to the University directly.
Step 2.
- Calculate your rank. Go to the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO). On this site, enter your occupation title and the search results will return your 'skill level.'
- Use the table below to calculate your rank by comparing your skill level with length of service. For example if your occupation is skill level 3, and you have two years of experience, your rank will be 69.
- You need to have a minimum rank of 65 to be considered for entry through the Work Recognition Program
