QUADRATURE ERRORS IN FINITE ELEMENT EIGENVALUE COMPUTATIONS

Alan L. Andrew,
School of Mathematics

This paper, which was presented at the David Elliott Conference (University of Tasmania, 1997), discusses some recent results on the effect of quadrature errors on the computed finite element approximations to the solutions of eigenvalue problems for differential equations. Emphasis is on the need for high accuracy to take full advantage of recent refinements in the finite element approach. Methods of achieving this accuracy are briefly discussed.
