Research Group on General Algebra and its Applications
The Research Group on General Algebra and its Applications is one of the most active and well-established research groups in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at La Trobe University. Its members include academic staff, post-doctoral fellows, graduate students, honours students and visitors.
The group's research centres on general algebra (also known as universal algebra), the theory of natural dualities, semigroup theory, lattice theory and related areas.
The research group has attracted talented young mathematicians who have won La Trobe University Postdoctoral Fellowships (Dr M. Haviar, Dr J. Tuma and Dr J. East) and ARC Postdoctoral Fellowships (Dr M. Jackson, Dr J. Pitkethly and Dr T. Niven). The group also attracts leading international researchers for stays of between one and two months.
The group meets at a weekly seminar throughout the academic year, and is also actively involved in the annual Victorian Algebra Conference.
