Prep to Year 10 Mathematics Discipline Study in the BEd
The Prep to Year 10 Mathematics Discipline Study in the Bachelor of Education (BEd) course at Bendigo that is recommended by the Department of Mathematics and Statistics consists of the four units listed below. It is suitable for students with a good result in VCE Mathematical Methods 3 & 4 or Specialist Mathematics. After completing the Study, a student will possess conceptual and practical skills in mathematics that will ensure they have a very sound foundation on which to teach mathematics in the middle years of schooling.
Students selecting a Mathematics Discipline Study are strongly advised to contact the Coordinator of Mathematics and Statistics at Bendigo, Dr Simon Smith (phone: 54447265, email: s.smith@latrobe.edu.au), beforehand to discuss their program, as the units have prerequisites, and care in selection is very important.

Examples of suitable units include Calculus A, Discrete Mathematics, Mathematics for IT and Statistical Methods at Level 1, and Experimental Design and Networks and Graphs at Level 2.
Please Note
All mathematics and statistics units are taught over the full 13-week semester. While every effort will be made by teaching staff to accommodate students who are absent from classes due to teaching practicum, the onus is on the student to keep up-to-date with work and to seek assistance from staff if required.
