Welcome
to the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the Bendigo campus
of La Trobe University.
The Department at Bendigo is located in the Business
Building. We are a small, but active, group of mathematicians
and statisticians, who are committed to quality teaching
and to developing and maintaining research programs
in several areas of pure and applied mathematics. Staff members are also
involved in consulting work within the wider community.

- MATHEMATICS MAJOR: A major in
mathematics and statistics is available in the Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Science Education courses at Bendigo. More details are available here.
- MATHEMATICS TEACHING: Are you interested in a career as a mathematics teacher? For teaching in secondary schools, you can take a Mathematics and Statistics Major in the Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Science Education double degree. For teaching in the middle years, there is a P–10 Mathematics Pathway in the Bachelor of Education course at Bendigo.

- The G. S. Watson Annual Lecture
is a lecture series that was established in 1999 in memory of Professor
Geoffrey S. Watson, a distinguished Bendigo-born mathematician. The 2008
Watson Lecture will be presented at 5pm on Wednesday 10 September by Emeritus
Professor Neville de Mestre (Bond University) – the theme of the
lecture will be "Mathematics in Sport". (To illustrate some of Professor
de Mestre's work, here are recent articles from
The Age,
BBC News and
ABC Radio National
that discuss his work on bodysurfing.)

Mathematical Sciences Institute, a national collaborative venture
to address some of the challenges facing the mathematical sciences
in Australia.

topical articles on mathematics, and is especially valuable for senior
secondary school teachers and students.
