Event DetailsAcademic Advice and Information on Referencing for Minor Thesis and AssignmentsPresenter: Ms. Julianne East Date: Wed 6th Aug, 2008 Knowing when and how to acknowledge and use references is not always straightforward. In my undergraduate years ensuring that the requisite number of quotations was arranged throughout a report and essay seemed to be the aim of the game. A lot of time was spent in making the writing look good and getting the punctuation right. At postgraduate level, the pressure is on to know how to choose appropriate references and critique these and also come up with something original. In this workshop, we will look at why we reference and how to reference (yes, making the writing look good is still important!). We will do this by considering features of academic convention, working through some models of writing and discussing concerns raised in the session. Content Approved by:
