La Trobe is committed to ensuring high quality learning experiences for our students and a culture that recognises and rewards great teaching. There are currently a number of initiatives being delivered in this space.
Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL)
Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Fund
La Trobe is committed to ensuring high quality learning experiences for our students and a culture that recognises and rewards great teaching. We value evidence-based pedagogical practices that enhance the student learning experience. To support these practices La Trobe Learning and Teaching seeks applications for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Fund for 2018 projects. For 2018, a total pool of around $240,000 has been made available. Individual project budgets should not exceed $25,000.
Details of the Fund and selection process are available here.
SOTL Seminars - Learning in the Digital Age
Be supported in your learning and teaching practice by hearing from award winning colleagues who have been involved in a variety of initiatives offered by La Trobe Learning and Teaching (LTLT)
Since 2009, LTLT has coordinated the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL) research network. The network provides staff at La Trobe with the opportunities to obtain feedback in order to advance and publish their SOTL projects and inquiries.
These sessions comprise 2 x 30 minute presentations, with each presentation including opportunities for participants to ask questions and clarify approaches to improving the student learning experience explained. The emphasis is on providing participants with ways of implementing the innovations into their own practice. Presenters are encouraged to share resources and engage in collegial discussions.

SOTL Grants and Publications
Be supported with the development of a culture of scholarly teaching through incentives that recognise and reward the systematic collection, analysis and dissemination of data about teaching and learning.
Teaching and Learning Chairs
To enhance leadership and innovation in teaching and learning, two Teaching and Learning Chairs have been appointed. Professor Chris Scanlon (ASSC) and Professor Birgit Loch (SHE) are leaders in the SOTL, and work within and across Colleges to promote excellence and innovation in teaching through projects aligned to our Future Ready goals.
Teaching Scholars Development Program
It’s essential we commit to developing the teaching leaders of the future. This program provides a pipeline of highly skilled, committed future teaching leaders in each College who will receive targeted and long-term professional development, mentoring and support.
