La Trobe is committed to ensuring high quality learning experiences for our students and a culture that recognises and rewards great teaching. There will be a number of initiatives in this space to be delivered in 2016.
La Trobe Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL) Fund
The first initiative is the La Trobe Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL) Fund. The 2016 Federal budget disestablished the Office for Learning and Teaching (OLT), significantly limiting external funding opportunities for support for the scholarship of teaching and learning. This creates an opportunity for the University to make a statement, both internally and to the wider sector, about the importance it places on teaching and learning. La Trobe's SOTL Fund will ensure this important work can continue through the award of large and small grants and professional development opportunities.
The first funding round closed on Monday 3rd October. Details of the Fund and selection process are available here.
Chairs in Teaching and Learning
To enhance leadership and innovation in teaching and learning, two Chairs in Teaching and Learning will be appointed; one in each College. These will be absolute leaders in the SOTL, working within and across Colleges to promote excellence and innovation in teaching through projects aligned to our Future Ready goals. It is expected that these positions will be appointed by late 2016/early 2017.
Future Teaching Leaders
It’s also essential we commit to developing the teaching leaders of the future. This program will provide a pipeline of highly skilled, committed future teaching leaders in each College and will receive targeted and long-term professional development, mentoring and support. Furthermore, the Digital Learning Innovators (DLI) pilot program has launched, supporting the development of talented emerging leaders in digital learning. More information about the DLI program can be found here.
These projects are all currently under development and details will be communicated as these become available.
