The Work Experience Expo is a fixture in La Trobe’s annual events calendar that offers students the opportunity to find out about internship and work experience opportunities and even network with potential employees.

This year’s Expo, held 5 August at the Union Hall at the Bundoora campus, enabled company representatives to talk to students about work experience opportunities.

Undergraduate and postgraduate students at different levels in their studies came hopeful to find opportunities to practice their newly acquired skills. Both international students and local students were eager to find more about their options and companies such as Pitcher Partners, Ernst&Young, Austin Health and Holden were there to meet potential candidates.

Professional Pathways Australia help international students get internships in their area of study. Development Manager Rick Jones says that his company receives a very high number of applications from international students, most of which are successful.

Ulf Backstrom, a student from Sweden says: ‘I was very surprised at the genuine interest from employees I experienced at this expo. Over twenty exhibitors showed an interest in me and provided information on possible career pathways, as well as urging me to upload my resume as soon as possible.'

Organised by La Trobe Careers and Employment the event was a great success. Apart from during the expo, La Trobe careers advisors are available throughout the year to assist students with their enquiries.
