Global scholars earn honours (Issue 8, 2013)
Almost 50 scholars from wide range of countries were honoured for their success during an annual ceremony at La Trobe University recently.
The elite group of students had received one of three scholarships, an Academic Excellence Scholarship, La Trobe Fee Remission Research Scholarship, or the International Postgraduate Research Scholarship.
One of the recipients, Quynh Mai Pham, said it was a great privilege to be one of the scholars.
‘Finding the right course at the right university is very hard, but from my very first communication with La Trobe University, I knew I had chosen the right approach (University),’ Mai said.
Senior Deputy Vice Chancellor and Vice-President (Global Relations) Professor John Rosenberg emphasised the great diversity of international students at the Melbourne Campus ceremony, which represented the University’s wider international student community from over 90 countries.
He said one of three essential elements of every degree was ‘global citizenship’.
‘We want our students to feel like they are part of a global world and that they can work in any part of the world,’ Professor Rosenberg said.
A total of 67 scholarships were awarded to international students from across the University’s five faculties in 2013.
La Trobe University regularly awards outstanding international students across all study levels. Scholarships can provide partial or full coverage of annual tuition fees.
