La Trobe receives funding (Issue 19, 2009)
La Trobe will receive $2.017m to assist in the development of innovative teaching and learning spaces ($900,335 in 2010 and $1,117,365 in 2011) on the Bundoora campus in Melbourne.
The Minister for Education, Julia Gillard, announced that La Trobe was among twenty-one Australian universities to share in $71.5 million to improve teaching and research facilities for students from the Government’s Capital Development Pool.
This funding is additional to the recent award by the Federal Government of $123.7 million for the development of the La Trobe School of Regional Health and in Bendigo and the La Trobe Institute for Molecular Science in Bundoora.
La Trobe University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Paul Johnson said he was delighted by the news.
‘This funding will help us towards creating an accessible, learning-focused culture and the sense of La Trobe as a top class learning community,’ said Professor Johnson.
‘We are committed to increasing access to all students capable of higher education, and ensuring that the curriculum and infrastructure is top quality,’ he added.
