Associate Professor Ishaq Bhatti launching the course

The launch of Islamic Finance Professional Development (IFPD) e-course began with the opening welcome statement from the director of the program Associate Professor Ishaq Bhatti, who thanked Dr Hayat Khan, Almir Colan and the School's administrative staff for the help in organising the ceremony.

This innovative course is the first of its kind to be offered in Australia in collaboration with the School of Economics and Finance, La Trobe University and Dubai's Ethica Institute, the world's leading certifier of Islamic finance online learning.

The IFPD e-course was officially inaugurated on Monday 17 January by La Trobe University's Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Johnson.

‘This course is primarily aimed at providing high quality training to cater for the growing need of the industry. It will provide academic and industry knowledge of the products within the Islamic finance and banking industry in Australia and overseas,’ said the Vice-Chancellor.

‘It is thus highly appropriate that La Trobe University is leading the way in the development of programs such as the one we are launching today, following on from the inauguration in 2009 of the Master of Islamic Banking and Finance degree,’ Professor Johnson added.

With more than 25 students currently enrolled, the IFPD is an intensive program which aims to introduce participants to the important building blocks of Islamic finance, a 1.4 trillion-dollar global industry.
