An animation produced by La Trobe University’s visual arts PhD student, Susan McMinn, has been selected to tour Europe as part of the Australian Panorama that featured in the Melbourne International Animation Festival.

Ms McMinn’s work, The Last Warhorse, was judged Best Australian Student Film at a recent presentation of the festival at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image in Melbourne. It is one of only 12 animations chosen from a field of 60 schools from around Australia.

The Last Warhorse is also the only Australian animation selected for the Women in Film and Television screening during the festival. Bendigo campus director, Andrew Skewes, says that Ms McMinn’s award exemplifies the high standards of work produced in Bendigo.

‘Ms McMinn is a credit to La Trobe University and we congratulate her on this outstanding achievement. The University and Bendigo will enjoy great exposure across Europe as a result of her tremendous success,’ said Mr Skewes.

Executive Director of the MIAF, Mr Malcolm Turner, will present the Australian Panorama at 18 festivals around the globe including London, Ottawa, the USA, and Estonia. The tour begins in London at the end of August 2009.

La Trobe University offers a three-year Bachelor of Visual Arts as well as a two-year Master of Visual Arts at its Bendigo campus.
