ABSTRACT: Wasana Somachriyakul - Thursday 29th October Hi Everyone Please note the following linguistics seminar: * Wasana Somachriyakul * Foreign Film Industry in Thailand : a thorough process from soundtrack to dubbing and subtitling release * Thursday November 26th, 3.30 pm Abstract Although the economic recession exists all over the world and a lot of business have turned insolvent or been liquidated, one business which does not show much effect is the film industry. The entertainment consumption demand is still huge as people are willing to spend for their pleasure. Each year, hundreds of foreign language films released in Thailand earn billions of Thai baht, especially the Hollywood blockbuster films. This gross revenue is a good index of a consistent viewership. However, the process before the film release, which is one factor that can enhance the success of each film, is rarely known by “outsiders”. This presentation will give some ideas about the processes within this industry in Thailand from the beginning to the film release. In particular, it concentrates on the translation, subtitling and dubbing process.
