Flow Cytometry
The LIMS Flow Cytometry Facility maintains a state-of-the-art high speed FACSAria III cell sorter, two high sensitivity FACS Canto II HTS cell analysers and a Beckman Coulter Z2 particle count and size analyser with a wide range of capabilities encompassing asceptic purification, collection and analysis of fluorescently labelled and unlabelled cells. Capabilities include:
- Simultaneous aseptic sorting and retrieval of up to 4 differentially labelled fluorescent cell populations
- High sensitivity multi-colour analysis of fluorescently labelled cells (up to 13 colours)
- Automated analysis of large sample numbers and small sample volumes using HTS (high throughput sampler, 96-well plate format)
- Rapid high precision cell or particle counting and sizing in 1 – 120 micron range (independent of cell labelling).

BD FACSAria III cell sorter (4 laser/13 colour)
Applications:
- Asceptic pre-clinical grade sorting and collection of up to 4 different fluorescent cell populations simultaneously (samples dispensed into tubes or plates with incubation from 4 - 37oC)
- Multi-colour analysis of complex samples labelled with up to 13 fluorochromes (using blue, red, violet and yellow-green lasers)
- Cell sorting applications requiring PC2 level containment (HEPA filter user protection and vacuum pump assisted removal of potentially hazardous aerosols generated by cell sorting)
BD FACSCanto II HTS (3 laser/7 colour)
Applications:
- Multi-colour analysis of complex samples labelled with up to 7 fluorochromes (using blue, red and violet lasers)
- High throughput applications using automated HTS and 96-well plates
BD FACSCanto II HTS (2 laser/5 colour)
Applications:
- Multi colour analysis of complex samples labelled with up to 5 fluorochromes (using blue and red lasers)
- High throughput applications using automated HTS and 96-well plates
Beckman Coulter Z2 particle count and cell analyser
Applications:
- High speed counting and concentration determination of cells or particles with reporting on size distribution
