LIMS complex

The LIMS facility

The LIMS complex is designed to facilitate collaboration between leading scientists.

Researchers from different disciplines including biochemistry, chemistry and genetics work together in well equipped, shared work spaces to achieve research outcomes that would not be possible in traditional academic settings.

LIMS is also an important training centre, providing students and early career researchers with access to the latest equipment and exposure to high impact research projects.

The LIMS complex is La Trobe University’s largest investment in research and academic infrastructure to date and represents a 30% expansion of our current facilities. The complex includes:

  • thirty-four research and support laboratories, featuring cell culture rooms, equipment rooms, offices for staff and students, and wet research areas
  • a 200 seat auditorium for teaching and public lectures
  • approximately 3,000 square metres of teaching facilities for undergraduate science students
  • an equipment suite to house the proteomic/mass spectrometry, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) and X-ray diffraction and spectroscopy equipment
  • advanced microscopy, cytometry and protein chemistry facilities
  • third generation DNA sequencing facilities
  • SPF animal facility.
