How to get involved

Who is the education program for?

The education program has been tailored for two groups:

What is involved in the support for decision-making education program?

The Support for Decision-making education program is interactive and will be a time for decision making supporters to share ideas and learn the important elements for effective support for decision-making.

There are 2 groups of participants/ supporters that will participate in the education program.

  • Group 1: the Education Group - will undertake the education program at the beginning of the research project.
  • Group 2: the Waitlist Group - will undertake the education program at the end of the research project, after improvements have been made.

The education program includes:

  • 2 x 4.5 hour support for decision-making workshops
  • There will be up to 10 people in each workshop who are supporters of a person with cognitive disability.
  • 6 x 30 minute telephone sessions with the participant / supporter will be done with a trainer (with your permission, these will be recorded, transcribed, and de-identified).
  • 5 x interviews over the course of 1 year will be completed with both the supporter and the decision maker. Each 1 hour interview will consist of a questionnaire and an interview.
  • The education program will be free and you will be reimbursed for your travel expenses if required.
