Print, AV and Ereserve

Reserve is made up of collections of high use items. You may place items in the Reserve Collections to ensure that recommended items are available when required by students. Borrowing or viewing these items is restricted to La Trobe University students only.

Create reserve lists

  • Use the Reserve Request form to have items added to a print and/or audiovisual reserve list. There is a limit of 25 items for each 3 hour loan list. However, there are no restrictions on the number of items on 3 day or 7 day lists.
  • Use the Ereserve Request form to have book chapters and journal articles digitised and placed on an electronic reserve list.
  • You must observe the University copyright regulations.

How can requests for material be processed faster?

  • Collect and bring the books or audiovisual items you have requested to the Reserve desk and discuss your requirements with staff.
  • Ensure that your submitted Reserve requests are filled in accurately. Include all the items details, as well as the lecturer’s name and contact number, subject name, subject code, campus and the number of students enrolled in the class if known.

The library does not hold a book that is required in the Reserve Collection

  • Include the details of the item at the end of your list with as much information as possible, such as author, title, edition, name of publisher, place and year of publication, ISBN.
  • Indicate 'Please order' beside the item.
  • Discuss alternative options with Reserve staff while waiting for the order to be supplied.

The item I want is already in Reserve under another subject

  • Include the items on your list as this will ensure that they will remain in Reserve for the duration of your subject.

When do requests for material need to be submitted?

  • Submit your new lists two to four weeks before required.
  • All lists are processed in order of receipt.

How do I see a list of items requested for Reserve?

  • From the library home page, click on the Catalogue tab.
  • Type your family name, first name (e.g. Smith, John) in the search box.
  • From the All Collections drop down menu select Reserve by Lecturer and click on Search.
  • If you teach more than one subject or have a variety of lists, all your Reserve lists will display. You will need to click on each of your lists separately. For each list, a number of titles should appear in alphabetical order.
