Borrow an item using the self-checkout machines
At the Melbourne and Bendigo campus libraries, you can use self-checkout machines to borrow items without going to the service desk.
- First, you'll need your student/staff card, CAVAL, La Trobe Melbourne or library card.
- Go to the self checkout machine.
- Follow the instructions on the screen.
- You will get a receipt detailing the borrowed items and the date they are due to be returned to the library.
- Return the items to the library by the due date or renew them online via My Library.
Borrow an item at a service desk
- First, you'll need your student/staff card, CAVAL, La Trobe Melbourne or library card.
- Go to the Inquiry/ Loans Desk in the library with the items you want to borrow.
- Present your student or staff card to the library staff.
- You will get a receipt detailing the borrowed items and the date they are due to be returned to the library.
- Return the items to the library by the due date or renew them online via My Library.
Borrow an item from the city campuses
- Franklin Street and Collins Street operate a 'virtual' library. A small reserve collection of high-use material is located at reception at both Franklin Street and Collins Street campuses. You can view 2 items for up to 3 hours within the campus buildings. You will need to show your current student card.
- Students at city campuses can borrow items from other La Trobe campus libraries. You can also visit the Melbourne campus library to borrow items in person.
- The items will be delivered to your city campus reception desk for collection during opening hours.
- Items can be returned via the return bins at the reception desks or through the book return chutes at the Melbourne campus library.
Some items cannot be taken out of the library. Find out what you can borrow and for how long.
