Creating a Lectopia link within the LMS

The only way for students to access your lectopia recordings is by adding a Lectopia link in your LMS subject. Lectopia links can be placed anywhere within your LMS subject. The links should be created prior to the actual recordings being made to ensure students gain access as soon as recordings become available through the Lectopia system.

Where LMS subjects have been rolled over from existing subjects please ensure that existing Lectopia links are deleted, as these will still point back to the previous semester's materials. If you have links to previous Lectopia resource units it is advised to re-upload the materials in those units up into the current semester's lectopia resource unit.

Before you can create a Lectopia link to your recordings you will need to have either a Designer or Lecturer role in the LMS subject in which you wish to create the Lectopia link. If you are not a Designer, any staff with a Designer or Lecturer role in the LMS subject can add other staff into a Designer role by visiting the LMS Administration site.

  1. Log in to the LMS and navigate to the subject in which you want to create the Lectopia link.

  1. Ensure you are in Editing mode by clicking on the ‘Turn editing on’ tab.

  1. Navigate to the topic where you want to add the link within the LMS subject.
  2. Click on “Add resource ”
  3. Select ‘Lectopia’.

  1. Select your subject unit from the list, then click ‘Next’.

  1. There are two options for creating Lectopia Links. The simplest is to ‘link to all recordings’. As new recordings become available they will be automatically added to the list of recordings displayed to your students.

  1. The second option is to ‘link to a single recording’.  In this case Select Option 2, then select the radio button of the recording you want to link to, and then click ‘Next’. With this option, a new link will need to be created for each and every recording.

  1. You will be asked to review your selections. If they are correct, click ‘Save’.

  1. Give the link a title and then click ‘Save and display’ to review your link or 'Save and return to subject' if you wish to test the link later.  It is important to make the title meaningful to your students, as this is what they will see on the LMS page. This page also features additional Lectopia functionality such as setting a release date and release conditions. These functions are a function of the LMS rather than Lectopia.

Testing the link

  1. If you didn't test the like during the creation process you can test later by navigating to the LMS content page where you created the Lectopia link, then click on the link.
  2. If the Lectopia link was created successfully a page similar to the one below will be displayed.

Modifying the link

Once the link is created it can be treated like any other object in the LMS. By clicking on the update option you will be returned to step 6 of the creation process.
