Compression settings

When you are going through the process of uploading a video in the staff tool you will be presented with options as to what format you should output your resources as. Lectopia uses a set of standardised compression settings to ensure quality control and limit the amount of codecs students need.

Audio

No compression - download only

Your audio is not compressed. The recording is not optimised for file size and for online players. It can only be downloaded. The file sizes may make these files difficult to access for those on bad connections

Audio

Audio only

Good for recordings where the key information is in the audio. If references to visual elements are made remember to describe them for listeners and/or make visuals accessible on web also.

Good file size able to be viewed online or downloaded to be played on users portable audio devices.

Video

No compression - download only

Your video is not compressed. The recording is not optimised for file size and for online players. It can only be downloaded. The file sizes may make these files difficult to accesfor those on bad connections

Standard 5 fps 4:3

This will produce the same output as an automated recording.

Framerate is capped at 5 frames per second regardless of input, and aspect ratio is 4:3. This setting is recommended for recordings of screens.

Included are MP3 downloadable audio-only formats, Flash streaming, along with quicktime streaming and download formats.

Video

Standard full frame 16:9

Framerate is sufficient to permit smooth motion playback in a widescreen format.

Standard full frame 4:3

Framerate is sufficient to permit smooth motion playback in a standard (4:3) format.

Included are MP3 downloadable audio-only formats, Flash streaming, along with quicktime streaming and download formats.

Standard HQ full frame 16:9

This will produce high-quality smooth-motion media. The resulting file sizes will be significantly higher placing more burden on home connections. This is NOT high definition. Rather a higher quality standard definition good for videos with lots of movement of high levels of detail.

Framerate will result in smooth motion playback in a widescreen format.
