  • Welcome lunch - All new law students commencing semester 2, 2009 are cordially invited to a formal welcome and lunch to meet the Head of School and other members of staff on Tuesday 28 July 2009 at 12.00pm - 2.00pm. The welcome will be held in the Martin Building 362 immediately after the first Criminal Law lecture. Law School staff will be at the WLT1 at the end of the Criminal Law lecture to escort students to the Martin Building venue.

  • Publication of first book analysing the new workplace laws - La Trobe Law School academic Dr Jill Murray is part of a group of labour law experts from around Australia who have written the first book about the new Australian federal workplace laws, the Fair Work Act 2009 : the book is Fair Work: the New Workplace Laws and the Work Choices Legacy (Federation Press 2009), edited by A Forsyth and A Stewart. The book will be launched next Wednesday 6 May by Commissioner Greg Smith AM (Australian Industrial Relations Commission), at the University of Melbourne Law School (Room G08, Law Building, Pelham Street, Carlton). A panel will discuss the Act and take questions from the audience. If you want an early briefing on what the new world of industrial relations and labour law will be like, you are welcome to attend.

  • Congratulations Leigh Howard - A School of Law student, Leigh Howard, was selected last September by the United Nations Association of Australia to participate in a Model UN Conference at Harvard in January 2009, along with 15 other Australian delegates. At the five day Conference, 2600 students from over 30 countries and from Ivy League Universities such as Yale, University of Chicago and the University of Pennsylvania gathered to discuss issues of international concern. At the end of the conference, Leigh was voted "the most outstanding delegate" by his fellow 400 committee members.

  • Duke University School of Law Scholarship Program 2009 - Duke University School of Law and La Trobe School of Law sponsor a total of four scholarships covering 50% of tuition costs to the Duke Summer Schools in Hong Kong or Geneva. In 2009, these schools run from June 28 through July 28.
    Academic credits earned at these schools may be credited to the LLB and the LLM at La Trobe School of Law.
    We invite applications for scholarships from interested law students.
