Sustainable Resource Management
Studying business at La Trobe University
The Faculty of Law and Management is unique in offering students a flexible approach to studying business. Students can choose varying levels of specialisation in their discipline of interest. The general Bachelor of Business offers four-subject minors and seven-subject majors. The Regional School of Business at Albury-Wodonga for the first time in 2009 offers a major in Sustainable Resource Management.
Sustainable Resource Management
The concept of sustainability involves complex business solutions that reflect a composite of economic, environmental and social or community concerns. It is increasingly used as a yardstick for all types of projects and yet it is an area where high level skills are in short supply. This major in the Bachelor of Business is designed to provide a solid grounding in the traditional areas of business such as economics, management, accounting and finance whilst emphasising the importance of multi-disciplinary approaches to some of the problems confronting contemporary organisations.
The Albury-Wodonga Campus is uniquely positioned to deliver this major due to its significant research strengths in the areas of environmental management, particularly water. This Major is built on the established research synergies between the Faculty of Law and Management, the Murray Darling Freshwater Research Centre, the Department of Environmental Management and Ecology and Humanities and Social Science. Students will benefit from a course that is designed and delivered by staff with recognised and relevant research and teaching expertise.
Career opportunities
Graduates from the Bachelor of Business with a major in Sustainable Resource Management will hold problem solving skills that recognise the impacts of global business decisions and actions on the environment, economy and community. Employment opportunities will exist in mid-sized and large national and international business and manufacturing firms, the public utilities sector, and local, state and federal government.
