Studying Management Information Systems at La Trobe University

One of the key majors of the Bachelor of Business, the Management Information Systems elective can be undertaken as a major or minor elective at La Trobe's Bundoora or Bendigo campuses. It will provide La Trobe graduates with new or additional avenues into the workplace equipping them with both systems thinking and technical skill sets.

What is Information Systems?

Information Systems deals with the development, use and management of an organisations whole information system. Its purpose is to put the information system to very best use to serve management and the employees, and to manage the flow of information in the organization in order to achieve the aims of the organisation.

Units that are offered:

To complete the major sequence, students will build on knowledge gained in their first year foundation unit - Management Information Systems.

Second year units students take all three units

  1. Professional Issues in Business Systems
  2. Business Applications Analysis and Design
  3. Managing Multimedia in Business

Third year units students select four of five units

  1. E-Business Systems
  2. Enterprise Information Systems
  3. Managing IT Projects
  4. Information Systems Management
  5. Human Resource Information Systems

Bachelor of Business

The Faculty of Law and Management is unique in offering students a flexible approach to studying business. Students can choose varying levels of specialisation in their discipline of interest. The general Bachelor of Business offers four-subject minors and seven-subject majors. The School of Management, in addition to offering minor and major sequences within the general Bachelor of Business, also offers a selection of specialised (tagged) business degrees in: Marketing, Human Resource Management, Sport and Leisure Management and Hospitality and Tourism Management.
