Marketing
- Marketing Principles and Practice is a subject where students put marketing principles into practice and assist industry clients to find better ways to reach their customers via a practical case study. In 2006 the case study involved a situation analysis for Ford Central. In 2007, students worked for Kubota Australia.
Tourism and hospitality management
- Food and Beverage Service - in this subject, students undertake practical work experience and also attain 'Responsible Service of Alcohol' and 'Responsible Service of Food' certificates making them instantly employable in industry.
- Accommodation Operations Management - students undertake practical work experience in the hospitality industry and also gain a certificate in the use of 'Micros Opera' (world's most widely used accommodation booking software). Tourism Computer Reservation Systems - students learn 'Galileo' which is an industry recognised certificate in operating and managing global reservations and ticketing systems.
- Tourism Venture Planning - in this subject students organise, plan, market and operate a special event or 'tourism venture'. All money raised is donated to the Cancer Council Victoria.
- Hospitality Enterprise Management - student develop sound hospitality management principles through a structured industry placement program.
Sport and leisure management
- Sport and Leisure Industry Practicum - students undertake an industry placement which provides the opportunity to use the sport and leisure management workplace as a rich learning environment.
- Elite Athlete Management - students develop an understanding of the demands elite athletes face in pursuit of a successful career during and after their sporting activity through a structured industry placement program.
Industry partnerships
The Faculty has established a partnership with the RACV Club with opportunities for tourism and hospitality management students, including student placements, paid internships for high performing students, Honours scholarships, prizes for academic excellence and potential job opportunities for graduates.
Other programs
Many of our business students are successful in gaining places within the Chartered Institute of Accountants work experience program. Students are paid while they obtain valuable hands-on experience, as well as the ability to network with industry professionals from major firms such as Ernst and Young and Deloitte. Those students who particularly impress may receive other work experience offers throughout their degree and even full-time employment upon graduation.
