Information Systems Management
Information Systems deals with the development, use and management of an organisations whole information system. Its purpose is to put the information system to very best use to serve management and the employees, and to manage the flow of information in the organisation in order to achieve the aims of the organisation.
The Information Systems Courses we offer
La Trobe University's School of Management has designed these innovative courses merging business and information systems management to meet employer demands for professionals with advanced, internationally recognised qualifications and experience.
The Graduate Diploma in Information Systems Management (GDISM), Master of Information Systems Management (MISM) and Master of Business Information Management and Systems (MBIMS) programs adopt a business-driven approach to IT knowledge and skills. The postgraduate programs provide flexibility allowing students to combine IT units (subjects) with elective units in the areas of management, accounting, economics, finance and other business focused areas.
Students will learn to develop business solutions in areas such as customer relationship management and marketing, accounting, and finance using IT knowledge and skills.
Our courses are designed to give students an understanding of information systems tools and concepts applied to a business environment. They will provide excellent employment opportunities in any country.
In order to be accepted into the MBIMS, MISM and GDISM programs you must hold a Bachelor degree or a degree determined to be equivalent by La Trobe University. You must also have achieved a C grade average or above in the final year of study towards your Bachelor degree.
Australian Computer Society accreditation
The Australian Computer Society (ACS) is the recognised association for Information & Communications Technology (ICT) professionals. It is the ACS is the public voice of the ICT profession. It creates and supervises professional ethics and standards, and certifies the education and training in the ICT.
We are delighted to announce the ACS has completed the accreditation of our courses and this is now effective. The outcome is as follows:

Graduate Diploma in Information Systems Management
This course is designed to equip graduates with an understanding of the analysis, design, and application of business information systems, data warehousing, enterprise resource planning systems, and business intelligence.
Students may progress from this course to the Masters of Information Systems Management or to the Masters of Business Information Management and Systems.
This course is available only at the Bundoora Campus.
Master of Business Information Management and Systems 2 years / Master of Information Systems Management 1.5 years
These courses are designed to give students an understanding of industry-based IT tools and information systems concepts applied to business environments. It imparts knowledge and skills along four dimensions: industry-based IT tools, business-focused IT units, business management units, and an industry-based business intelligence project.
Industry-based IT tools include enterprise information systems (e.g. SAP), and business intelligence (e.g. SAS). Business-focused IT units include areas such as information systems design, information systems management, enterprise resource planning and customer relationship management, human computer interaction, business intelligence, entrepreneurship and IT data warehousing, knowledge management, IT project management and decision support systems.
Students in the Master of Information Systems Management (1.5 years) will be part of planning and developing a significant applied information systems team project. Students will also undertake a single business management elective subject.
Students in the Master of Business Information Management and Systems (2 years) Students will be part of planning and also in developing a significant applied information systems team project with application in a specific business discipline. Students will undertake three business management elective subjects.
Students also have the opportunity to be selected by one or more of our industry partners for an internship program of up to 12 weeks in companies conducting business in a number of areas including business intelligence, enterprise and resource planning, manufacturing and health care.
