Master of Islamic Banking and Finance - information
La Trobe University’s Master of Islamic Banking and Finance (LMIBF) is the first course in Australia dedicated to Islamic banking and finance. This cutting-edge coursework masters program is built around a defined body of knowledge of proven relevance to the Islamic finance industry.
The program will provide postgraduate students with training in the technical skills in demand by global Islamic capital markets and institutions. Students will develop expertise in Islamic banking, Islamic insurance and Islamic capital markets. Upon successful completion of the course they may be granted exemptions from the Chartered Islamic Finance Professional (CIFP) Part One requirements for international
professional recognition.
This innovative program seeks to meet the growing demand for graduates with sound academic and industry knowledge in Islamic finance in the Middle East and South East Asia, and in particular, the Gulf Cooperation Countries (GCC), Indonesia and Malaysia. Entry Requirements
In order to be accepted into the Master of Islamic Finance program you must hold a Bachelor degree (or a degree determined to be equivalent by La Trobe University). You must also have achieved a ‘C’ grade average or above in the final year of study towards your Bachelor degree.
English Language Requirements
International students applying for postgraduate courses of La Trobe University must provide evidence of their English language proficiency. The standard English language requirement for entry into postgraduate study at La Trobe is an IELTS result of 6.5 with

Course Structure
The course is designed as a two-part Masters programme comprising twelve 15-credit-point units completed in two or three semesters of full-time study. The two parts comprise a combination of two or three modules of study, depending on the point at which you enter the program and your relevant qualifications and experience.
The three modules are as follows:
Foundation module
The four foundation units focussing on finance, economics, accounting and quantitative methods.
Core module
The five core units in Islamic finance and three elective units drawn from the subjects on offer in La Trobe’s Master of Financial Analysis (LMFA).
Elective module
Four elective units chosen from a defined pool of units drawn from the Master programs offered within the Faculty of Law and Management.
