Mooting

There are many opportunities to participate in simulated legal activities at La Trobe Law School, such as client interviewing, witness examinations, negotiations and mooting.

La Trobe Law School has an outstanding record in competitive mooting, at both national and international levels, participating in the Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moots in Hong Kong and Vienna, the Frankfurt International Investment Arbitration Moot, the Jessup Moot and the International Criminal Court Moot in the Hague.

La Trobe Law School ranks as one of the best performing Australian law schools and has consistently  reached the finals of international mooting competitions. Success has been at a team and individual level with many of its speakers being recognised with speakers' awards. Our international mooters have developed their written and oral advocacy skills, they have learnt the value of team work and they have had an opportunity to network with lawyers, judges and academics from all around the world.

International Commercial Arbitration Moots

The Vis moots are the most prestigious private international law moots in the world. They have been likened to the mooting Olympics with hundreds of the best international law schools competing annually.

La Trobe has consistently reached the finals of the Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moots in Hong Kong and Vienna and the school's advocates have consistently won various speakers awards.  In 2014 La Trobe Law School reached the finals of these moots for the sixth consecutive year. In that year at the Vienna Vis competition, our advocates reached the finals and were ranked in the top 10% of nearly 300 competing international law schools.

International Criminal Court Moot

In 2012, La Trobe Law School was the equal highest Australian team in the International Criminal Court Moot in The Hague reaching the semi-finals of the world finals. One of La Trobe's advocates was also recognised for his superior advocacy skills by being awarded the best speaker.

International Investment Arbitration Moot

In 2009, La Trobe Law School won the prestigious International Investment Arbitration moot in Frankfurt and one of our advocates was awarded as the best speaker for the completion.
