Terms of reference

The Centre for Legislation, Its Interpretation and Drafting aims to become a research leader in the field of statutory interpretation.  It is a strategic initiative committed to fostering high quality and innovative research, as well as national and international research and collaborations.

The Centre’s Terms of Reference are to:

  1. establish links between the Centre and external organisations, including the parliament, executive and judiciary
  2. provide a forum for the development of a scholarly community, which allows informed and respectful debate in relation to legislation, its interpretation and drafting
  3. foster excellence in legislation, its interpretation and drafting
  4. assist applications for external funding by staff of the School of Law and external investigators and partners
  5. support postgraduate research in legislation, its interpretation and drafting
  6. enhance and support the research environment of La Trobe University
