Dr Vijaya Thyil joined the Graduate School of Management in 2003 with extensive cross cultural teaching experience in India, Papua New Guinea and Australia. She has a background in Economics from the University of Madras in India where she was ranked first in the University in her Master's and was placed in the top ten, in her Bachelor's program.

She was awarded the University Grants Commission Senior Research Scholarship by the Government of India to pursue her PhD in Management. Her thesis focused on the integration of organisational cultures in mergers and acquisitions.

In 2005, she was invited by the Burgundy School of Business, Dijon , France , as a Visiting Professor in Finance for their Master of International Business program. She is an invited member on the Scientific Committee for the Department of Finance, Law and Control, Burgundy School of Business, Dijon , France . The committee is an international advisory panel of academics and practitioners for curriculum review and development in the department for the last 2 years.

Her research interests are Corporate Governance, Entrepreneurship and Entrepreneurial Spirit, and Spirituality. Her current projects are: Innovating and Strengthening Regional Industry co-funded by the Australian Government Department of Transport and Regional Services and the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law, La Trobe University; A holistic model of Corporate Governance, funded by the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law, La Trobe University; and, a 16 country project on Strategic Management of Innovation. She is also involved in a School project that investigates opportunity recognition in entrepreneurs. Her work has been presented at national and international conferences.
