Brief Profile

Don joined the Economics and Finance Department at the Latrobe University as a Professor at the beginning of 2008. Prior to joining La Trobe Don was at the University of Melbourne where he taught in the Department of economics and was a Senior Research Fellow at the Melbourne Institute. He has also held positions in the Australian Treasury, where he was head of the Policy Research Unit, the then Industry Assistance Commission and the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

Don's main research interests are in macroeconomics, econometrics and applied economics. Much of his research has been on the business cycle. He also has a keen interest in public policy.

Don is a fellow of the European Area Business Cycle Network (EABCN) and a director of the Macro-econometric Models and Methods program in the Centre for Applied Macroeconomic Analysis (CAMA).

Recently Don was awarded the Thompson Science award for the highest average citation rate for an Australian economist over the decade 1997-2007.

With Stephen Koukoulas Global Strategist TD Securities I am joint creator of the TD Securities-Melbourne Institute Inflation Gauge which provides a survey based measure of monthly inflation in Australia.
