Welcome to Language and Academic Skills (LAS)

The Language and Academic Skills Unit in the Faculty of Science, Technology and Engineering promotes the development of students' academic skills in a variety of ways. We provide group teaching and individual consultations for both undergraduate and postgraduate students in the faculty, and we also assist staff to develop and embed curriculum initiatives to enhance the development of their students' academic skills.

The LAS FSTE website contains an extensive list of external websites which provide useful advice on a range of topics, including academic writing style, essays, laboratory reports, literature reviews, postgraduate theses, referencing, grammar and exam preparation.

Individual appointments to see a LAS lecturer

The LAS lecturers in the Faculty, Meg, Robyn and Barbara, are available for individual appointments with undergraduate students, postgraduate students and staff. We can assist you in developing a variety of academic skills, including writing essays, reports and theses; reading and research, oral presentation preparation and delivery; study skills and exam preparation; and studying with a disability.
