Resources for academic staff
The LAS(ESL) Unit works across all faculties at the Bundoora campus of La Trobe University with both undergraduate and postgraduate students, staff and visiting scholars for whom English is a second language. We provide:
- Free workshops for all students
- Workshops for particular units - if you have a cohort of ESL students in your unit, we can tailor specific workshops for your Unit. Please contact us for further information
- One-on-one consultations for students to develop their language skills and to facilitate their cultural adjustment to learning at La Trobe. Use this referral sheet (DOC.27KB) to obtain a recommendation from LAS ESL staff for a student.
- Orientation to research course for all new postgraduate research students who have English as a Second Language
- Credit subjects
- English as a Second Language 1 - ESL1 is a 15-credit point first year unit. (Unit code: EDU1ESL).
- English for Global Communication - is a 20-credit point unit offered at third/fourth year and as a postgraduate subject. (Unit code: EDU4EGC).
- Effective Communication for the Global Workplace – is a 15 credit point elective aimed at international students studying the Double Masters Program in MBA and IT/Electronic Engineering/Telecommunication Engineering. (Unit code: BUS4COM).

Staff with English as a Second Language
