Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
1. Can students do English as a second language (ESL) for credit?
Yes. Available to both undergraduate and postgraduate international students and permanent resident ESL students
First Year - 15 credit points. A one semester subject offered both 1st and 2nd semester
Third/fourth year or postgraduate - 20 credit points.
Masters - 15 credit points. An elective aimed at international students studying the Double Masters Program in MBA and IT/Electronic Engineering/Telecommunication Engineering.
2. Can students get help with their English?
Yes. Help is available to both undergraduate and postgraduate international students and permanent resident ESL students.
Workshops
Workshops for undergraduates
- Tuesday and Wednesday from 1.00pm-2.00pm
- No bookings are needed.
Orientation course for research postgraduates
- Enrolment is necessary.
Independent Learning Centre
The Independent Learning Centre (ILC) provides a space for students to work on their own. It has computers for student use and houses resources such as materials on:
- Pronunciation
- Grammar
- Writing essays/reports
- Australian academic culture
- Listening materials
- Reading effectively
3. Are there individual consultations for students?
Yes. Consultations are available to both undergraduate and postgraduate international students and permanent resident English as a Second Language students.

Students can also have 10 minute consultations without an appointment in the 'Drop In' session, Monday to Friday 1.00pm - 2.00pm.
