Student placements and volunteering

Student placements

LaRRC often take on higher education students for work related to current projects and programs. Experiencing work first hand within a supported environment allows students to observe the realities of working life in this field. It’s also a great opportunity for you to meet and network with people in your chosen profession. While we currently have no opportunities for student placement continue to check this page for updates.

Volunteer opportunities

LaRRC Research Library Review

If you are looking to develop your research skills and build upon experience working with databases and/or Endnote. If you are interested in refugee and forced migration studies and feel you can contribute to a burgeoning reference library of refereed and grey literature in this field – then this is the volunteer position for you!

LaRRC maintains a free interdisciplinary bibliography of key references relating to research priorities in refugee and forced migration studies. The bibliography is updated frequently with both peer-reviewed and grey literature from research studies and programs being undertaken by staff and students in the Centre. This reference is a key resource and an excellent starting point for research into this field.

Ucan2: Volunteer with young refugees

Ucan2 aims to facilitate and support the social inclusion of newly arrived young people from refugee backgrounds (16-24 years) in all aspects of community life. The project recognises the need to provide additional support for these young people as they make transitions through the post compulsory school, training and teritary sectors, and aims to contribute to their recovery and integration.

CMY has adopted a volunteer model for Ucan2 that focuses on connecting young people from different cultural backgrounds, and providing role modelling, sharing of experiences and social connectedness. Volunteers will be encouraged to share their experiences, actively participate and build relationships with the young people offering support, friendship and fun in a supportive environment.
