About Other Treatments
However, this site only includes information about treatments which are evidence-based, which means they have been:
Don't Be Fooled!Almost ANY new and unusual way of speaking is likely to bring about immediate short-term fluency, often through the power of novelty and suggestion. For example, positioning the tongue differently or breathing differently can temporarily reduce stuttering13. The bad news is that after the novelty wears off the stuttering comes back. Also, the unusual speech changes often continue out of habit and sound very strange along with the stuttering13. A Tablet to Cure Stuttering? It's too good to be true- there's no such thing. Medications have been studied to see if they reduce stuttering. Some medications cause speech improvements for some people, but have very bad side effects. Many people found their speech improved with medication but decided to stop taking it because of side effects like drowsiness2. |
