The new city campus expansion has been approved by La Trobe University Council, and will encompass a two-level expansion of the City Campus at 360 Collins Street, Melbourne. This will provide La Trobe University with an expanded and consolidated presence in the city business district (CBD).

Overview

The expansion aligns with La Trobe University's strategic goals including:

  • providing an outstanding student experience
  • increasing student employability and
  • improving external engagement

Project status

The fit out works are substantially advanced and on track for handover in time for Semester 1, 2017.
Wall, carpets, ceilings and services installation is complete. Audio Visual projectors and screen are installed and commissioning is commencing. Joinery is installed and furniture will be installed in January.
ICT network and air conditioning systems commissioning will commence during January.

Benefits

The new accommodation on levels 2 and 3 will provide:

  • a significant expansion of teaching and informal learning spaces for existing and new postgraduate students
  • executive education and professional development programs for both Colleges
  • some shared accommodation for staff and general areas for CBD-based meetings, industry engagement, consultations, events and other activities

Design features

The design will feature street-level access from Little Collins St, with student support available at the main entry foyer. Signage will be installed to provide information on timetabling and University events on all levels. The facility will deliver over 210 new informal learning seats in closed syndicate, semi formal and informal formats.

Answer. There will be an extra 210 new informal learning seats on the campus on levels 2 & 3.

Question. Will there be mobile phone/laptop recharging facilities?
Answer. Yes, these will be located throughout the facility in the fixed informal learning areas.

Question. Will there be recycling bins available throughout the floors?
Answer. Yes.

Question. Will the new accommodation fitout works affect the existing level 20 accommodation?
Answer. The Collins St access will be unaffected. However these and other works in the building may result in possible disruptions to Little Collins St access.
