The mission of La Trobe University is to be an internationally recognised leader in the scholarly discovery, preservation, transmission and application of knowledge.

The mission of the La Trobe International (LTI) is to plan, carry out and continually review the marketing, selection and admissions activities for international students and to promote internationalisation and student mobility within the University.   • Government Regulation via the Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) Act;
  • La Trobe University stake-holders;
  • Universities Australia (UA).

La Trobe International is committed to:

  • Monitor and verify full La Trobe compliance with all Australian Government legal, reporting and ethical requirements
  • Responsibly and accurately represent La Trobe's course offerings to prospective students and their families
  • Ensure full compliance with La Trobe admission selection requirements such that students who are offered a place have the academic and language ability to enable them to succeed
  • Monitor student perceptions of the La Trobe experience and provide feedback to Faculty and service providers as needed, and revise and ensure the accuracy of promotional activities and materials as needed
  • Set and monitor Key Performance Activities as an on-going management tool to confirm the achievement of all planned standards of accuracy and service.

Transnational Programs
As part of its international vision, La Trobe University aims to be a provider of choice for educational institutions and other organisations internationally cooperating in staff and student exchange, joint program delivery, and collaborative research projects.

La Trobe University has been successful in developing diverse and active institutional linkages in many countries. For more information about La Trobe University policies and procedures relating to Trans-National Education (TNE) or to access resources in this area, please visit the Transnational Education Toolkit page.

Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS)

Australia provides the world's most rigorous protection for international students through the Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) Act 2000. The ESOS Act requires those institutions providing education to international students to meet nationally consistent standards in their education delivery, facilities and services. ESOS aims to ensure these services are consistent with the standard of education delivered to Australian students.

The Australian Government publication, The ESOS framework - providing quality education and protecting your rights (pdf 45kb) provides a useful summary of the ESOS framework, for students and staff. For more detailed information, or to view the ESOS Act, please visit the Australian Government's website Australian Education International. Information about ESOS is also available in other languages at Study In Australia (follow the link to "Quality" under "Why Study in Australia?")

International Student Advisory Network

The International Student Support team facilitates the International Student Advisory Network (ISAN), an information-sharing forum around issues affecting international students, for staff across the University.

Universities Australia

Universities Australia, the peak university sector public interest body, represents 38 of Australia's universities, nationally and internationally. UA aims to advance higher education through voluntary, cooperative and coordinated action. UA is non-partisan and exists exclusively for educational purposes. Visit Universities Australia for more information, or to view the Code of Practice and Guidelines for Australian Universities.
