Education Services For Overseas Students (ESOS)
International students are protected by various legislative requirements such as the ESOS Act and the AVCC Code of Practice. These documents help protect the rights of international students studying in Australia. Other organisations have been sent up within La Trobe to support international students, such as the ISAN Network.
There are also a number of responsibilities that international students must abide by such as visa regulations, payment requirements, enrolment requirements, etc.
Education Services For Overseas Students (ESOS)
Australia provides the world's most rigorous protection for international students through the Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) Act 2000. The ESOS Act requires those institutions providing education to international students to meet nationally consistent standards in their education delivery, facilities and services. ESOS aims to ensure these services are consistent with the standard of education delivered to Australian students.
The Australian Government publication,The ESOS framework - providing quality education and protecting your rights (PDF 45KB), provides a useful summary of the ESOS framework, for students and staff. For more detailed information, or to view the ESOS Act, visit the Australian Government's website Australian Education International. Information about ESOS is also available in other languages at Study in Australia (follow the link to Quality under Why Study in Australia?)
The AVCC Code governs the promotion of courses to international students Universities Australia (UA) UA Code of Practice/Guidelines.
