How to Apply

Undergraduate and Postgraduate Courses

There are three ways to apply to study at La Trobe University :

directly – this can be submitted either online or by post (please follow the instructions below)
• through one of La Trobe University’s world-wide representatives
• through VTAC or UAC (Australian Year 12 students only).

 

DIRECT APPLICATIONS

To apply directly to La Trobe University, please follow the simple steps listed below.

1. Select your course(s) Choose the course(s) which interests you by referring to our undergraduate or postgraduate prospectuses or to the courses page.

2. Check that you meet the minimum academic entry requirements and satisfy any prerequisites or special requirements Check that you meet the minimum academic entry requirements needed for entry into undergraduate and postgraduate courses at La Trobe University. Please also check your course in the tables of courses for any additional requirements.

3. Check that you meet requirements for English language proficiency Check that you the meet the requirements for English language proficiency.

Please note that if you have not satisfied the English language proficiency requirements, La Trobe University may make you a conditional offer. This means that you may be offered a place at the University which will be reserved for up to one year while you improve your English. The La Trobe University Language Centre offers English language tuition so that once students successfully complete the English for Further Studies Advanced Stage 5B Certificate at an acceptable level, they may enter most courses without sitting a further English test.

4. Download and complete the required Supplementary Forms (see table below).

 

APPLY ONLINE

If you wish to apply online, follow steps 1 to 4 above and then:

5. Download the instruction manual for entering applications into the International Student Information System (PDF, 1.2 MB) and read carefully before entering your application.

6. Access the International Student Information System (ISIS) and start the process of entering your application online.

7. Scan and upload into ISIS:

a. Original or certified copies of your academic qualifications (in English translation)
b. Original or certified copy of evidence of your English language proficiency
c. Any other information specified in the entry requirements for the course(s) you have chosen
d. Any supplementary application forms required.

8. Pay the A$80 application fee either by using our convenient online credit card payment facility or send a bank draft, bank cheque or credit card details to:

APPLY BY POST

If you wish to complete an application form in writing, follow steps 1 to 4 above and then:

Please remember to attach the following:

• Original or certified copies of your academic qualifications including a full statement of results (in English translation if required)
• Original or certified copy of evidence of your English language proficiency
• Any other information specified in the entry requirements for the course(s) you have chosen
• A bankdraft, bank cheque, or credit card details for the A$80 application fee.
• If you are applying for Advanced Standing, please also attach your course syllabus.

6. Send, fax or scan and email your application form and accompanying documentation to:

Applications by Australian Year 12 Students

Applicants completing Year 12 in Australia must apply through either VTAC or UAC

Important: We recommend that you allow a minimum of four to six weeks to obtain your student visa and to make your travel arrangements (in some countries, student visas can take up to 3 months to process). If you already have a student visa, you can apply for entry to Semester 1 courses until mid-January. However, if you do not have a student visa, you should apply by December at the latest. For July (mid-year) entry, you should submit your application by the end of May at the latest.

How to Accept Your Offer

If your application is successful, you will receive a Letter of Offer and an Offer Acceptance Booklet.

To accept your offer, you must follow the instructions enclosed with your Letter of Offer and pay the total deposit sum indicated. For more information about this process visit our Offer Acceptance page.

Once you have accepted your offer we will send you a Pre-departure Guide which provides important information regarding airport reception, accommodation, and more.

You will need to make travel arrangements to arrive in time for our Welcome Festival orientation program. – see our calendar for dates.
