Understanding your letter

Conditional offers

If you have received a conditional offer, please note that this is not a full offer. You must fulfil the condition(s) stated in your letter of offer before it can be changed to a full offer.

English language conditions

If undergraduate English or postgraduate English language conditions apply to your offer, once you have met these conditions send your results to La Trobe International, before or when you accept your offer.

TOEFL: If you are taking the paper-based TOEFL, you need to complete the Test of Written English (TWE, as achieving a minimum score in the TWE is a requirement of the University.

La Trobe Melbourne: If you wish to meet the English language conditions by completing English for Further Studies 5B (at undergraduate or postgraduate level) at the La Trobe Melbourne, please complete the Application for Enrolment. Submit this directly to the La Trobe Melbourne to receive your letter of offer.

  1. Please note: The Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) requires students to provide a minimum IELTS score as part of the student visa application process.
  2. English test results must be no more than 2 years old.

Academic conditions

If academic conditions apply to your offer, e.g. completing your current studies, you must provide evidence that you have met the condition before or when you accept your offer.

Original/Certified documentation conditions

You will not be permitted to enrol without providing original or certified copies of all academic transcripts. If you have received an offer but did not submit original or certified copies of all academic transcripts with your application, you will be required to provide these before or when you arrive at the University.

Credit for previous studies (Advanced Standing/recognition of prior learning)

If credit for your previous studies has been approved, you will receive a letter from the relevant faculty in addition to your letter of offer. The course duration shown on your letter of offer will reflect the amount of credit received.

If this credit is conditional, you must provide evidence that you have satisfactorily met the condition before or when you accept your offer. If you did not request assessment for credit when you submitted your application to study, you can still apply for credit for previous studies. Please make an appointment with the relevant Faculty adviser within two weeks of your course commencing. Please note that if there are any subsequent changes to the duration of your course - e.g. if you are given credit after your student visa has been granted - DIAC must be notified.

Unit, Course, Program

The terms ”unit“, “course” and “program” are used differently around the world and can sometimes cause confusion. At La Trobe University:
Course: describes a degree program, e.g. Bachelor of Business. It can be substituted for the word “program”.

Unit: Describes the study modules or subjects within a degree - typically an undergraduate business course comprises 24 units over 3 years.

In the United States, for example, a La Trobe “unit” would be called a “course”, and a La Trobe “course” would be called a “program”.
