Double degree - double success (Issue 12, 2012)

Triet Nguyen DinhTriet Nguyen Dinh started studying a Bachelor of Accounting/Bachelor of Finance at La Trobe University in 2011. Originally from Vietnam, Triet had been in Australia two years prior to starting his double degree.

Triet decided he wanted to study at La Trobe while he was at high school due to our outstanding reputation and diverse range of courses. He was interested in both accounting and finance, so La Trobe’s double degree in these fields was his natural choice.

Triet didn’t find the adjustment into university life too hard due to the fact that he had significant English language practice and had attended high school in Australia.

‘I was fortunate to have embraced the Australian education, culture and people for two years before coming to La Trobe,’ says Triet.

Triet has loved his time in Australia and his study experience at La Trobe University.

‘It has been unequivocally fantastic and fulfilling. There have been ample opportunities, out of which I strive to avail myself. Rather than specifying a particular event, memory or achievement, I would say the most memorable thing I got out of this journey was the mere fact it was life-changing and turned me into a more mature, responsible and well-rounded person.’

Triet has been awarded for his outstanding academic performance through a Dean’s Commendation and an invitation to join the prestigious Golden Key International Honour Society. He is also involved in extracurricular activities and was elected Vice President of the Vietnamese Student Association in his first year at La Trobe.

He finds the community on campus a great representation of what Melbourne is like on larger scale.

‘The community on campus is truly a microcosm of the Australian multicultural society, reflected in the staff and students’ diverse ethnic backgrounds, restaurants, shops and a number of student associations and societies. As such, La Trobe University would undoubtedly be a campus of choice for any international student to study in Australia and Melbourne in particular.

‘Receiving an international qualification from an internationally reputable institution like La Trobe is indisputable evidence, shown to potential employers, that I am ready and fully equipped to be a global citizen and be part of the global workforce. In addition, I hope the non-academic accomplishments and contributions I have made during my time in Australia will make me stand out as I join the workforce in a not-too-distant future.’
