Mastering business around the world (Issue 20, 2011)
Eshan Arya has been at La Trobe University since 2008, first studying a Diploma in Business Administration at La Trobe Melbourne, then a Bachelor of Economics and now a Master of International Relations with Honours.
Eshan has loved his time at La Trobe, and found the adjusting period from India smooth and stress free. He is involved in many clubs and societies and found this extremely useful in the settling in process. Eshan lives at Chisholm College, which is one of the many accommodation options at La Trobe, and has had some truly great experiences while there.
‘I have had the best social and community living experiences in Australia. I have been living on campus at Chisholm College since 2008 and the friendly multicultural environment over there helped me meet some amazing people who will be my friends for a lifetime.’
Being a big tennis fan, Eshan found watching his favourite players, Roger Federer and Maria Sharapova, play at the Australian Open the most outstanding cultural experience in Australia so far. However, he also considers the many awards he has won at La Trobe highlights from his time here too.
‘Winning the La Trobe Gold Award, three Dean’s Awards and the Outstanding Leadership within the DRS Award have been the highlights of my time at La Trobe University. As well as working as a Peer Mentor, a Safety Patrol officer, Tutor, Residential Assistants Coordinator, a kickboxing and jujitsu coach at the La Trobe Sports Centre, a Team Manager for the martial arts team at Uni Games in Perth and the Director for Public Relations with the International Student Association (ISA).'
Eshan is very passionate about his studies, finding the correlation between economics and international relations very helpful. He is also confident that what he has learned here will help him find a job quite easily.
‘I am very passionate about the political analysis of economic policies and political decisions of world leaders, which is made possible by my study of international relations and economics. The platform to derive a relationship between theory and practical decisions is what interests me the most.
‘With a qualification from La Trobe combined with the leadership roles and skills I have gained here, I feel I am ready for the outside world with a superb understanding of the work ethics and work environment needed in the industry.’
