From Zimbabwe to Albury-Wodonga (Issue 10, 2011)
La Trobe alumni Tindikai Munyawarara
‘Being at one of the smaller campuses was ideal for me. The quietness of a rural location meant more attention could be placed on my studies with few distractions,’ says Tindikai.
‘Class sizes were kept at a minimum, which fostered intimacy and openness among students and with the lecturer.’
Upon his completion in 2003, he was invited into the Honours program, which he completed in 2005.
As a La Trobe alumni, Tindikai entered a career in the telecommunication industry and he now works for the Telecommunication Industry Ombudsman.
His experience at La Trobe is one that he won’t forget and has a lot of praise about.
‘La Trobe is a world-class university which places the student at the centre of its activities and engages with them through the subjects offered.’
As an active community member, Tindikai made sure he was involved and was able to make a difference. He has been working with St Joseph’s Emergency Housing, an initiative run by St Joseph’s Parish South Yarra, aiming to provide relieve housing to the homeless.
For the future, Tindikai hopes that he will acquire enough experience to be able to run his own small business and continue involvement with community-conscious causes.
