From Russia with love (Issue 15, 2011)

ArturArtur Daylidonis is from the Russian Federation and after self-analysis and consultations with his parents, he came to Australia to study a Bachelor of Business (Tourism Management) in 2010.

Artur quickly became comfortable to the La Trobe University surroundings, attributing the friendliness of the people here to finding his way around.

‘The people studying and working on campus are really great; they helped me with orientation and scheduling,’ says Artur.

‘Socialising, active questioning and listening skills helped me to adjust comparatively quickly. By the end of my first semester I was ready to offer my knowledge to new international students by participating in the Semester Two International Welcome Festival.’

Artur has enjoyed his time in Melbourne and Australia, lavishing in what the City has to offer.

‘I really like the unique spirit of Melbourne, featuring its history with outstanding architecture, museums and public places. Australia creates an image of a peaceful, sustainable and welcoming country. Its biggest asset is the diversity of nice people.’

Artur is an extremely active student, who enjoys all the opportunities presented to him by La Trobe University.

‘La Trobe University provides a wide range of different activities for students with all needs. I personally participated in (I hope) most of the events that were happening on campus. In fact, my theoretical studies complimented my practical experience. That is an indicator of how good these programs were.’

Artur has truly enjoyed his time in Australia and is looking forward to his future time here.

‘Australia is a kind and caring country and it helped me develop these qualities in myself. Only here did I realise how greatly I was mistaken about some of my past beliefs.

Here I realised that it is possible to create a country of dreams; a land where people have equal opportunities and fair incomes, where human beings really care about the environment and help each other.’
