Bendigo campus
Project description
Key goals for future development of the campus are to improve the integration of the Campus Core with the Residential Precinct, through the creation of improved pedestrian routes; to enhance the public domain in the Campus Core and its landscaping; to expand the number of beds in the Residential Precinct; to create a small number of feature buildings and spaces and to move towards carbon neutrality.
The formation of a Campus heart in the form of a new ‘Campus Green’ is central to the new Master Plan. To assist in achieving these goals the Bendigo Master Plan provides a framework for the briefing of future land use, building and infrastructure projects.
Implementation projects
- Develop medium to long-term capital development and space master plan and program of rolling refurbishments.
- Construct stage 1 of a new building and undertake staged building refurbishments as part of a program to consolidate academic accommodation in the Campus Core.
- Progressively develop ‘the Street’, ‘the Avenue’ and the ‘Campus Green” and the external ‘Learning Commons’ to enhance the public domain.
- Progressively develops new multi-level carparks and decommission some roads to enhance the public domain and the landscape of the Campus.
- Enhance the landscaped corridors through the Campus Core to promote access for wildlife between the nature reserve to the north and the bushland area to the south. Further develop pathways and bicycle routes for staff, students and the community.
- Co-develop or divest surplus land in a sustainable way to provide amenity and a financial return to La Trobe University.
- As public domain projects are undertaken, progressively upgrade graphics and signage. Use new graphics and signage for some early initiatives to improve the legibility and wayfinding at the Campus.
Bendigo Master Plan Framework documentation
The Bendigo Master Plan volume 1, contains a summary of the analysis of the Bendigo Campus as well as information for consultants undertaking future projects.
The summary document provides a conceptual physical framework that will provide guidance on the appearance and development of built form and landscape on the Campus.
