Master Plan
La Trobe University currently occupies more than 550 hectares of land, housing more than 230 buildings across six campuses.
A Master Planning framework has been developed for the Melbourne and Bendigo campus. These frameworks provide the University with a planning framework against which management and Council can assess and position infrastructure and campus capital developments.
The Master Plan was developed following an extensive process of input, plan development, consultation and feedback with key stakeholders in the University. The focus is on creating and sustainable amenity for the University community while leveraging the University’s geographic and historical strengths.
Sites for new buildings are defined to allow for structured future expansion and to consolidate activities that are currently located outside the core campus area(s).
Summary of key goals
The Master Plans seek to achieve a number of goals including (but not limited to):
- The creation of a competitive advantage for La Trobe University through the differentiation of the campus (open, transformative, engaged, accountable, sustainable), cost leadership (cost benefit, amenity return), and by focus on geographic and historical strengths.
- Making the campus a better place to learn, teach, research, work, and live.
- Consolidation of activities to the campus core to improve efficiency, add to vibrancy and reduce travel times between locations.
- The better integration of the campus with the local community by facilitating pedestrian access routes into the campus and attractive development of peripheral lands.
- Reduction of La Trobe University carbon emissions with the ultimate goal of making the campus carbon-neutral and maximisation of the use of existing buildings and infrastructure.
- Improvement of the external presentation of the campus and provide a Gateway to the campus.
