What are the Activity Cards
These cards were designed for school students to take home and try with parents/guardians. They provide some simple information about the program and an interview with one of our Peer Mentors as well as the activity.
The activities utilise items easily found in the home are mostly take less than 30 minutes to complete.
The aim was to help engage the wider community in science and mathematics through simple activities and what better place to start than at home.
the activities are grouped for Y5-7 age levels and Y8-10
Year 5 - 7 age levels
- Cracking Codes (mathematics) - learn about a simple coding devise using a Ceasar cipher
- Penguin Parents (biology) - learn how penguins cope with extreme weather when rearing their young
- It is Rocket science (physics) - learn how rokets work and Newton's Laws
- Criminal Ink (chemistry) - solve a crime by using simple chromatography
Year 8-10 levels
- Cabbage Chemistry (chemistry) - investigate acids and bases using red cabbage indicator
- Build a Hovercraft (physics) - investigate forces using this simple activity
- Mummified Heads (biology) - using desiccants to mummify an apple
- Finding Pi with darts (mathematics) - this fun activity uses random chance to calculate probability results
