Schools and teachers

In2science supports science teaching and learning by placing university science students in government schools as peer mentors. The program has grown to involve more than 100 schools in recent years.

Peer mentors volunteer a few hours of their time each week for eleven weeks to help out in science classrooms, under the supervision of a teacher. They assist with class activities and build relationships with school students, acting as positive role models and encouraging further study in science and mathematics.

What are the benefits of having a peer mentor at my school?

Peer mentors can bring knowledge of current debates and recent research in their fields to the classroom as well as offer an extra pair of hands. Many schools have been impressed by the passion and enthusiasm peer mentors have brought to the classroom.

How does my school become involved in In2science?

Every school involved in In2science needs to appoint a Link Teacher, who acts as a liaison between your school and the university-based In2science Coordinator. The Link Teacher coordinates and offers support to peer mentors and the classroom teachers they work with.
