Account Management

Computer Account Management is provided for all computer accounts on systems that are operated and maintained by ICT.

Active Directory

Microsoft Active Directory is the system used to provide students and staff with their La Trobe usernames and passwords (La Trobe accounts).

Anti-Virus

The most essential means of protecting your computer from viral infection is to install anti-virus software and keep it up-to-date.

Apple Store

La Trobe staff and students can purchase Apple products at discount rates.

Audio Visual Services

The Audio Visual Services (AVS) unit provides staff with a wide range of technical support for audio visual and multimedia delivery systems across the campus.

Backups/File Restores

ICT uses a secure offsite tape facility which allows for the fast retrieval of files. Some charges may apply.

Blogs

A central blog server which runs the blog application called Serendipity

Computer Based Training (CBT)

Computer based training is available to all staff and students at La Trobe University.

Copyright

There are two statutory licences available to La Trobe to enable copying and communication for educational purposes of print & graphic and audio-visual material in both analogue and digital formats. The University also has a music licence which enables some copying and/or communication of commercially available music for educational purposes.

Email Access and Support

Email accounts are available to all La Trobe University staff and students.

Facilities Management

ICT can house computer equipment that does not fall under its charter.

Internet Charging

The ICT group has recently reviewed all aspects of charged internet use in the University.

IP Address Registration

All computers connected to the University network must have a registered name. This is to improve security on the network and to ensure that only authorised people are using our network.

Mailing Lists

A mailing list is an electronic distribution list. Information Technology Services has established a number of mailing lists on behalf of different users.

Microsoft Windows XP SP2 operating system.

Mobile phones

Tasks and responsibilties for mobile phone support are divided between Information & Communication Technology (ICT) and Procurements & Business Services (PBS)

Modem Setup

La Trobe University has a number of modem lines set up for network access, allowing you to dial in with your computer and make a connection to the campus network.

Network support

ICT provides support for all La Trobe network facilities across all campuses.

Network time server

Use the network time server to keep accurate time on servers, network devices, PCs, or laboratory equipment.

Password Reset

Staff and students can change their La Trobe account passwords using an online password reset system.

Photography

The Photography and Digital Imaging Unit provides high quality specialist and traditional photographic services for La Trobe staff.

Plagiarism Detection (Turnitin)

Turnitin is a web-based plagiarism detection and prevention software system.

Printer Queue

ICT will set up printer queues on request for either Callista, SAP, or PC access.

Proxy Information

When a web browser downloads a web page, graphic, or file from a remote web server, the local proxy server saves a copy of that resource.

Software Licenses

ICT will organizes the procurement of software licenses for software packages used at La Trobe University. These licenses may be procured as a site license, a volume license or as individual licenses.

Staff Directory

The Online Phone Directory allows you to search for email and/or phone numbers across all campuses within the La Trobe network

Standard Operating Environment (SOE)

The Standard Operating Environment for personal computers is a hardware and software specification suitable for La Trobe University.

Telephone Access and Support

Information Technology Services is responsible for the maintenance and enhancement of the telephone network across all campuses of La Trobe University

Telephony - Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP)

La Trobe University is currently upgrading the telephone systems at all campuses. The current Ericsson MD110 PABXs are being replaced by Cisco Unified Communications. Every handset will be replaced with a Cisco IP telephone.

Virtual Private Network (VPN)

A Virtual Private Network allows the creation of a secure private network over a shared public network infrastructure such as the Internet.

Voicemail

Voicemail is a computerised voice messaging system which offers features and flexibility far beyond those of an answering machine.

Web Access to Email

Outlook Web Access (OWA) is a feature rich Exchange client that provides secure access to Exchange mail boxes from any compatible web browser.

Web Development Guidelines

Development on the La Trobe University website is regulated by the provision of standard templates and development guidelines. How to guides on creating forms and password protection are also provided.

Web Publishing Accounts

Web publishing accounts for University departments, units, and research initiatives are available on the main Bundoora webserver (WWW).

Web Statistics

Information and Communication Technology provides a web statistics service called UniqStats. This service incurs minimal charges per sub-site.

Website Hosting

Web site hosting is offered to organisations which are independent from La Trobe but are closely associated with the University, such as commercial areas, funded projects, businesses and affiliations.

Windows Updates

The Standard Operating Environment (SOE) images have been pre-configured to use the Software Update Services Server (SUS) in ITS for Windows Security and Critical updates.

Wireless network

Wireless access points connected to La Trobe University's network allows users to access the University's intranet or access the World Wide Web.
