Computer accounts (also known as La Trobe accounts) for staff and students are managed using Microsoft Active Directory. These accounts are used to access email and most online facilities.
ITS provides modem access for staff and post graduate students to connect to the La Trobe network from home. A Virtual Private Network (VPN) provides staff with secure access to the La Trobe network via the internet.
Computer support services include anti-virus, backups and file restoration, provision of printer queues and the provision and management of software licenses. A Standard Operating Environment (SOE) for personal computers is managed centrally.
Email and associated services are provided using Microsoft Exchange. Services include scheduling, calendering, address book and mailing lists.
ITS provides and maintains the entire La Trobe network across all campuses. Services include IP address registration, provision of a virtual private network (VPN), and a wireless network which is currently being implemented on all campuses.
Teaching resources include audio-visual services, computer-based training, photography, plagiarism detection, and copyright management. Audio-visual services will soon be providing online lectures.
Telephone services include the maintenance and enhancement of the telephone network across all campuses, voicemail, fault reporting, equipment hire, and the provision of telephone usage accounts.
Web services include the provision of web publishing accounts, website hosting, web statistics, and web development guidelines and standards for La Trobe websites.
